Alnus jorullensis, commonly known as the Evergreen Alder or Mexican Alder, is a fast-growing tree that produces a broad crown of open and drooping branches. The branches host dark green leaves with serrated edges and while it will generally be evergreen, in cooler climates it may become deciduous or semi-deciduous as it reaches 10 m tall and 6 m wide. Alnus jorullensis is commonly grown as a specimen, used for screening and shelter, trimmed into a hedge, or planted in the wetter areas of a garden or alongside water features such as ponds and streams.

Sequoia sempervirens, commonly known as Redwood, is a large and stately, evergreen tree. It is aptly named for its red coloured bark and wood. It features feathery, dark green foliage held on broad branches that emerge from a central stem and can 50 m tall and 20 m wide. Redwoods are commonly grown as a specimen or planted to provide shelter and screening. They are also often grown specifically for timber production with the wood used for furniture making or cabinetry.
