Cyathea dealbata, commonly known as the Silver Fern or Punga, is a NZ native tree fern. It features bright green fronds up to 4 m long which have a silver-white colouration on the underside, hence the common name. It typically grows to 6 m tall and 4 m wide in a semi-shade or full shade position. Cyathea dealbata is well suited to cool and damp areas and is great for providing a sub-tropical feel to a garden. The Silver Fern is also used for revegetation projects, added to native gardens, planted alongside streams, and used in mixed plantings.

Cyathea tomentosissima
Cyathea tomentosissima, commonly known as the Highland Lace Fern, produces soft and delicate looking fronds which spread horizontally to about 1 m from a central crown. These are held on an upright stem which may reach 1.5 m tall. Cyathea tomentosissima is commonly used to provide a sub-tropical feel to the garden, included in mixed plantings, planted around pool or barbecue areas, or maintained in a container.
