Sophora tetraptera, commonly known as Large-Leafed Kowhai, is a NZ native tree with a slender and graceful growth habit. Trees carry fine, green foliage which is adorned with masses of golden yellow flowers in spring as it grows to 10 m tall and 3 m wide. Sophora tetraptera should be included in any native planting and is commonly grown as a specimen, planted to attract birds, or included in a mixed planting.

The intertwined, almost tangled branches are golden coloured and host very small leaves as it grows to 2 m tall and the same wide. Sophora prostrata is commonly grown as an interesting hedge, added to a mixed planting, included in a native planting, or maintained in a container.
