Boysenberry Mapua Details

Boysenberry Mapua is a popular variety of Boysenberry owing to its fabulous fruit and lack of thorns. It produces white flowers in spring which result in the familiar, sweet tasting berries in early summer. The foliage is dark green, mostly thornless, and develops yellow tones in autumn before falling. This deciduous shrub grows with multiple stems to about 1.5 m tall and the same wide, and can be trimmed as necessary. It is generally grown with a trellis to provide additional support for the canes. Best fruiting performance is achieved when it is planted in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of frost but not windy or coastal environments. Boysenberry Mapua is commonly grown for fruit production or included in a mixed planting. It will attract birds and bird netting may be needed.
