Morus nigra Chelsea Details

Morus nigra Chelsea is a variety of the commonly known, Mulberry Tree, which is a deciduous, fruiting tree. It produces tasty fruit that are rarely found in shops. In spring it produces small white flowers that result in the large, black, juicy berries in summer which can be eaten fresh. The foliage is mid-green and develops yellow tones in autumn before falling. It typically grows to 8 m tall and 10 m wide but can be contained with trimming. Best performance with this tree is achieved when planted in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of frost and cool climates though a late frost in spring will cause yield loss and can injure plants. Morus nigra Chelsea is commonly grown as a shade tree, added to a mixed planting, or simply grown for fruit production.
