Ribes aureum is a variety of Currant grown for its flowers and flavoursome berries. Clusters of small, tubular, yellow flowers in spring give rise to clusters of small, glossy, orange berries in summer. These are borne along the upright stems amidst the mid green foliage. The foliage eventually turns red-purple before falling in winter. It typically grows to 1.8 m tall and the same wide and can be trimmed as necessary. The older stems should be removed each winter so it does not become too woody and this will assist with achieving better yields. Best results with this plant are achieved when grown on a well-drained, sheltered site in full sun. It is frost hardy and will tolerate short periods of dry. Ribes aureum is commonly grown for fruit production, added to a mixed planting, or grown as an informal hedge.
