Ribes nigrum, commonly known as Black Currant, is a woody shrub grown for its tasty berries. Small, white flowers in spring give rise to clusters of small and glossy, black, berries in summer. These are borne along the upright stems amidst the dark green foliage. It typically grows to 1.5 m tall and the same wide and can be trimmed as necessary. Ribes nigrum is commonly grown for fruit production, added to a mixed planting, or grown as an informal hedge.
