White Allium, Naples Garlic, Brides Onion
Commonly known as White Allium, this plant produces spectacular flowers. Stems rise above the foliage through late spring and summer to bear masses of sweetly scented, white flowers. The show is impressive and is accentuated by the strap like, green foliage which affords a lovely contrast of colours. It typically grows to 25 cm tall and the same wide, performing best when planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of coastal environments and cool climates with plants often dying back during winter to regrow again when conditions warm. White Allium is commonly included in mixed plantings, cottage gardens, or border plantings with a mass planting giving exceptional displays. Plant the bulbs any time before mid-spring at a 20-25 cm spacing.
