Star of Bethlehem, Orange Star Flower
Commonly known as the Star of Bethlehem, this fabulous plant is grown for its brilliant, orange flowers in summer. The showy blooms are produced over several weeks off sturdy stems that can rise 30 cm above the lush, green foliage. This bulbous perennial typically grows to 15 cm tall and the same wide, performing best when positioned in full sun on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of short periods of dry, frost, cool climates, and will die back during these times to regrow when conditions start to warm. The Star of Bethlehem is commonly included in cottage gardens, planted around outdoor living areas, used in border plantings, or maintained in a container and brought indoors during flowering. A mass planting is a must with this variety with bulbs spaced 6-8 cm apart and planted 5 cm deep.
