Aloe ferox (Cape Aloe) Details

Commonly known as the Cape Aloe, this is a single-stemmed aloe which typically grows to 3 m tall and 1 m wide. The stem is often coated with dead leaves which can be removed if desired. The crown comprises a dense rosette of succulent, dull green to red-brown leaves. Each leaf can be up to 70 cm long, and carries dark brown spines. The foliage is complemented with clusters of bright orange flowers in winter which are borne off an upright stem. This Aloe prefers a dry soil, warm temperatures, and a full sun position. It is well suited to planting in arid environments where it is often grown as specimen. It is commonly included in Mediterranean themed gardens, used in a mixed planting with other succulents, or maintained in a container.
