This dwarf cactus is grown for its small stature, elegant form, and pretty flowers. A fleshy and very prickly, dark green stem grows to about 10 cm tall and the same wide. During late spring the plant is adorned with amazing pink and orange flowers. The flowers literally transform the plant into a picture of beauty. This cactus grows best on a very well-drained soil (or growing media) in full sun. It can tolerate light frost once established, and extended dry periods. Notocactus roseoluteus is commonly grown as a potted plant or included in rock gardens.
