Opuntia microdasys, commonly known as the Bunny Ear Cactus or Rabbit Ear Cactus, is grown for its great form, small stature, and lack of thorns. It produces pad like leaves that branch off each other. The fleshy leaves are dark green and covered with white glochids. It can reach 1.5 m tall and 1 m wide in its natural environment, but generally only reaches 40 cm tall and 25 cm wide when maintained in a container. Best results with this cactus are achieved when it is grown in full sun on a well-drained, semi-sheltered site. It will tolerate extended dry periods, moderate frost, and coastal environments. Opuntia microdasys is commonly included in rock gardens where it makes for an impressive specimen, or maintained in a container. It is well suited to being grown indoors in an office or home environment.
