Mexican Blood Trumpet
Amphilophium buccinatorium, commonly known as Mexican Blood Trumpet, is a vigorous climber with showy flowers and elegant foliage. Lush, green foliage is held on sprawling stems that bind onto structures and anything that will help it climb. The foliage becomes adorned with red, trumpet-like flowers during spring and summer. It can grow to 10 m tall, but is often kept to smaller sizes with trimming. This evergreen grows best in full or partial shade on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is hardy to light frost once established as well as short periods of dry. Amphilophium buccinatorium is commonly grown as a climber in tropical gardens or used anywhere a vigorous plant with colourful flowers is desired.
