Bougainvillea ‘Magnifica Traillii’, commonly known as Paper Flower, is a deciduous climber that produces masses of showy, deep purple flowers. In cool climates it flowers during summer only, but in warmer climates it may flower throughout the year and remain evergreen. The flowers are complemented with lush, dark green foliage which generally develops yellow tones in autumn before falling. It typically grows to 5 m tall and 4 m wide but is usually trimmed to control growth. Best results with this plant are achieved when it is planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It will tolerate both dry and heavy soils, cool climates, frost, and some wind. Bougainvillea ‘Magnifica Traillii’ is perfect for training over an arch or gazebo or allowing to ramble along a fence. Where it doesn’t have a support structure it will grow as a groundcover and can be used for planting on a bank or the like. This variety of Paper Flower is an impressive and vigorous plant that will not disappoint.
