The foliage is lush, leathery, and green, and if left untrimmed, this climber can grow to 25 m. Distictis buccinatoria is commonly used to cover pergolas, garden arches, fences, walls, or other supporting structures. It is a great addition to the garden and will cover an area quickly.

Distictis buccinatoria Details

Distictis buccinatoria, commonly known as the Red Trumpet Vine or Mexican Blood Trumpet, is a vigorous, evergreen climber that produces an abundance of tubular flowers from summer through autumn. Each flower is about 7cm long, bright red with a purple hue, and has a prominent yellow throat. The foliage is lush, leathery, and green. Left untrimmed this climber can grow to 25 m but it is often contained to sizes much less than this. Best performance with this plant is achieved when grown in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. Distictis buccinatoria is commonly used to cover pergolas, garden arches, fences, walls, or other supporting structures. It is a great addition to the garden and will cover an area quickly.
