Ficus pumila ‘Minima’, commonly known as the Creeping Fig, is an impressive climber. It carries tiny, heart shaped leaves which are light green when young and darken with age. It clings to walls by roots along the stems which enable it to spread quickly across a surface. It will easily climb to cover an area 4 m by 4 m within 2-3 years. As the plant matures it develops thick, stocky branches which can be pruned off to encourage new growth. Ficus ‘Minima’ grows well in full sun through heavy shade conditions but does require a well-drained soil. Frosts and cold environments may cause defoliation, but it will generally regrow again when conditions warm. It is also tolerant of coastal conditions and periods of dry. This is a great plant for covering a wall or trellis and it is commonly used in formal gardens.
