Hedera Needlepoint Details

Hedera helix Needlepoint is a smaller variety of Ivy and features great foliage. The dark green leaves are long, narrow, and have a forward pointing lobe, hence the name. The foliage often develops bronze tones during winter. Small, green flowers in summer result in black berries in autumn which add extra interest to this plant. This evergreen will grow as a climber when it has something to attach onto, otherwise it spreads across the ground as a creeper. As a climber it will easily cover a 3 m square inside of two years though can be trimmed as necessary. Best performance with this Ivy is achieved when it is grown in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of dry periods, frost, coastal environments, and moderate wind. Hedera Needlepoint is commonly used to cover fences and walls, grown as a groundcover, or planted on the edge of wall where it will trail over the side. The foliage is commonly used in floral arrangements.
