South African Jasmine

South African Jasmine is the common name for Jasminum angulare, an evergreen climber that produces an abundance of beautiful star-shaped, highly scented, white flowers through spring and summer. These emerge from pink buds so there is always a display of buds and flowers during this time. The foliage is dark green and held on slender, green stems. This plant is very vigorous and can grow up to 6 m tall and the same wide when it has something to climb. With some trimming this climber can easily be controlled and even be grown in a pot with an upright support. Plants are very hardy and will tolerate reasonably dry conditions as well as coastal environments but do require frost protection when young. South African Jasmine is commonly grown on a trellis or other support structure and is perfect for covering an archway.
