“Firecracker” is a very unusual plant from the Honeysuckle family. This hardy climber produces flowers in spring through summer in shades of red, orange, yellow and purple. The unusualness comes from the cup-shaped bracts which form a collar around each flower. The flowers are followed by red berries in the autumn. The leaves are grey-green in colour and are quite similar to that of Eucalyptus. It typically grows to 2 m tall but can be trimmed as necessary. Best growth is achieved when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of frost and dry periods. This climber is perfect for growing on trellises, fences, and pergolas and also looks very effective when allowed to trail over a wall. The unusual nature of the plant will certainly make it a talking point.
