Casuarina cunninghamiana, commonly known as She Oak or River Oak, is an evergreen tree that grows to about 18 m tall and 6 m wide. It features slender, grey-green, needle-like foliage and a trunk with dense, rough bark. This tree grows best in full sun on a well-drained site and is tolerant of wind, coastal conditions, frost, cool climates, and a range of soil conditions except at the extremes of wet and dry. Casuarina cunninghamiana is widely recognised as an important tree for stabilising riverbanks, reducing soil erosion, and makes for an effective screening and shelter tree.
