Japanese Larch
Commonly known as the Japanese Larch, this a large and deciduous tree originating from Japan. It features clusters of short, dark green needles held off near horizontal branches. As autumn progresses, the leaves develop colourful yellow tones before falling. Adding additional interest to this tree are the upward facing cones which are held through most of the year. It grows with a pyramidal shape and can reach 30 m tall and 8 m wide, performing best when planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of frost, cool climates, dry periods, and wind. This Japanese Larch is ideal for planting as a specimen in parks and large gardens. It is also well suited to being planted for shelter and is commonly grown specifically for timber in Japan and Europe.
