Thuja Pyramidalis Details

Thuja occidentalis Pyramidalis, commonly known as Pyramidal Arborvitae, is an interesting conifer grown for both its form and foliage. It grows with a narrow and dense, pyramidal shape. The foliage is dark green, sometimes tinged bronze in winter, and produced with a somewhat layered effect to give the plant an interesting texture. The leaves themselves are tiny and aromatic. It typically grows to 4 m tall and 1.5 m wide and can be trimmed as necessary. Best results with this small tree are achieved when it is grown in full sun or partial shade on a semi-sheltered, well-drained site. It is tolerant of frost, coastal environments, and short periods of dry though will benefit from protection while it is establishing. Thuja Pyramidalis is commonly included in a mixed planting, used as a backdrop for smaller plants, grown for shelter or screening, used for hedging, or planted to line an entranceway or avenue. It is great for providing an architectural element and suits being planting against a large, bland wall.
