Western Hemlock, Western Hemlock-Spruce
Commonly known as the Western Hemlock, this conifer is a large tree that may reach 50 m tall and 15 m wide. It grows with an upright, conical shape hosting branches with pendulous branchlets. The dark green leaves are needle-like, flattened, and have a finely serrated margin. Small cones are held within the foliage through most of the year. This tree grows best when positioned in full sun on a well-drained site, though it is tolerant of wind, frost, cool climates, and coastal conditions. The Western Hemlock is commonly grown as a specimen in parks and large gardens or used an attractive wind break.
