Adiantum aleuticum Details

Adiantum aleuticum, commonly known as the Western Maidenhair Fern or Five-Fingered Fern, carries attractive, soft, mid-green foliage. The new fronds unfold from wiry, purple-black stems. It grows as a clump to about 50 cm tall and the same wide, performing best when planted in light shade with good moisture and shelter. It will tolerate dry conditions but these will tend to stunt the plant. It may die back when conditions do not favour growth such as during winter but will regrow again when conditions improve. Adiantum aleuticum is commonly used as a potted plant and is ideal for indoor conditions. For outdoor planting it is ideal for planting beneath larger trees and shrubs, for shaded areas, for planting around pool or barbecue areas, or for including in mixed plantings.
