Athyrium niponicum Pictum is a hardy and attractive fern. This selection grows compactly with fronds that are dark green with an olive and silver overlay. The colouring is quite impressive. It typically grows to 50 cm tall and 40 cm wide, growing best in partial shade or full shade conditions on a well-drained site that does not dry out. Good moisture is essential for this fern and in colder conditions it may die back during winter to reshoot in spring.
