It features long and cascading fronds that may reach 2 m long and 50 cm wide. Young fronds often have red tones when grown in a sunny position, which age to light green, and darken further as they mature, developing a crinkled appearance at the same time. Blechnum novae-zelandiae is commonly used in situations where its long fronds can be appreciated such as in large containers or at the top of walls.
