Fertiliser For Bulbs Details

Choosing the correct fertiliser for bulbs is key to getting the best results with your tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, freesias, or whatever bulb plant you are growing. They require sustained nutrition from the time they shoot until when the leaves die down if you are to enjoy good flowering performance this year and next. Most retailers sell high priced, quick release fertilisers which give the plant a quick boost but do not sustain the plant unless further applications are made every 6-8 weeks. The Plant Company Bulb Fertiliser has been specifically blended to give 9-months of continuous nutrition and give the bulbs that initial boost. The Plant Company’s fertiliser for bulbs is applied at rate of one handful (1 cup) per square metre of planted bulbs. A heavier rate of two handfuls can be used if you think nutrient levels are low. The fertiliser can be applied either over top of the planted bulbs or incorporated into the soil during planting. Be sure to make sure the fertiliser is watered in and not concentrated against bulbs. Do not place as handfuls directly under each bulb as this will cause root burning and may damage your bulbs. This fertiliser blend is suitable for all types of bulbs grown outdoors and can safely be used alongside shrubs and other perennials as well as annuals. It should not be used for bulbs grown in a container, but rather The Plant Company’s fertiliser tablets should be used as a complete solution. One kg of fertiliser will adequately fertilise 5-10 square metres of bulbs for one year.
