Libertia ixioides Details

Libertia ixioides, commonly known as Mikoikoi or NZ Iris, is a NZ native, herbaceous perennial grown for its beautiful, white flowers. The showy blooms in spring rise above the foliage and result in attractive, bright yellow seed capsules which remain on the plant for 2-3 months. The foliage comprises upright, pale green sword-like leaves that have distinct yellow tones when grown in full sun. It typically grows to 60 cm tall and the same wide and will colonise a larger area in time with its spreading roots. Best performance with this plant is achieved when it is grown in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. The NZ Iris is tolerant of coastal conditions, cool climates, frost, and a range of soil conditions. Libertia ixioides is commonly mass planted as a ground cover plant, added to a mixed planting, used in borders, planted around the base of a large tree, or included in a cottage garden.
