Phormium Tricolour Details

Phormium Tricolour is a NZ native variety of Flax that is grown for its outstanding foliage. The foliage is arching, sword shaped and variegated with pink, cream, and green stripes. In summer it bears stems with dull-red flowers which are followed by twisted, black seed pods. It typically grows to 2 m tall and the same wide, growing best and produces the most intense leaf colourings when planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It will tolerate frost, coastal conditions, wind, poor soils, and cool climates. Phormium Tricolour makes a fantastic addition to mixed plantings, border plantings, planting around water features, adding to coastal gardens, or planting around pool and barbecue areas. It is also well suited for mass planting on a bank and in these situations provides an impressive display.
