Astelia fragrans Details

Astelia fragrans features flax-like, stiffly arched leaves that are green-yellow with a silver underside. Showy and fragrant, yellow flowers are borne in clusters during spring and result in yellow-orange fruits in summer. This herbaceous perennial typically grows to 1 m tall and the same wide, preferring a partial shade or full shade position that is well-drained. It will tolerate dry periods, some wind, and moderate frost but is intolerant of heavy, wet soils. Astelia fragrans is commonly included in border and mixed plantings, or mass planted either as a groundcover or on a bank.
