Dianella caerulea, commonly known as the NZ Flax Lily, is an herbaceous perennial that bears spikes carrying delicate blue and yellow flowers in spring which are followed by small, blue berries in summer. These are held neatly above the dark green, strap-like leaves. It typically grows to 1 m tall and the same wide. Dianella caerulea is suited to adding to mixed plantings, mass planting under trees and shrubs or on a bank, including in cottage gardens, or maintaining in a container.

Dianella caerulea, commonly known as the NZ Flax Lily, is an herbaceous perennial grown for its foliage and flowers. In spring it bears spikes carrying delicate blue and yellow flowers which are followed by small, blue berries in summer. These are held neatly above the dark green, strap-like leaves. It typically grows to 1 m tall and the same wide and has storage roots that enable it to survive a wide range of environmental conditions. It grows best in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is hardy to frost, coastal environments, dry periods, and cold climates.
