The Dianella Blue Flax Lily, Cassa Blue, is grown for both its foliage and flowers. In spring it bears spikes carrying delicate, light blue flowers. These are held neatly above the blue-green, strap-like leaves. The flowers are followed by small blue berries in summer. It will typically grow to 80 cm tall and the same wide and has storage roots that enable it to survive a wide range of environmental conditions. It grows best in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is hardy to frost, coastal environments, dry periods, and cold climates.
