It grows to 1 m tall and the same wide in full sun or partial shade. Dianella haematica is commonly used in riparian or wetland plantings, or planted around water features such as stream and ponds.

Swamp Dianella

Swamp Dianella is the common name for Dianella haematica, a NZ native, flax-like perennial grown for its hardy nature and attractive foliage and flowers. It produces spikes carrying delicate, white flowers in spring which are held neatly above the dark green, strap-like leaves. The flowers are followed by small, blue berries in summer. It typically grows to 1 m tall and the same wide and has storage roots that enable it to survive a wide range of environmental conditions. It will grow best when planted in full sun or partial shade on any soil type, except extreme dry. It is hardy to frost, coastal environments, wet and heavy soils, and cool climates. Swamp Dianella is commonly used in riparian or wetland plantings, or planted around water features such as stream and ponds.
