The Chilean Iris, scientifically known as Libertia formosa or Libertia chilensis, is an herbaceous perennial is grown for its foliage and flowers. Stems bearing clusters of pure white flowers rise above the dark green-yellow foliage through spring and summer. Green seed capsules follow the flowers and mature to an orange colour. The Chilean Iris typically grows to 60 cm tall and 50 cm wide but will spread further than this as the roots send up new shoots. Best results with this plant are achieved when it is positioned in full sun on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of frost, cold climates, dry periods, and coastal conditions.
