Libertia Grasshopper is a dwarf variety of the NZ Iris, and is an herbaceous perennial grown for its showy flowers and small stature. Lovely, white flowers are held emerge above the foliage through spring and result in orange-red berries in autumn. It grows as a tidy clump of green, sword like leaves, to about 10-15 cm tall and the same wide. Libertia Grasshopper is commonly mass planted, added to a mixed planting, planted around the base of a larger tree, included in cottage or “white” gardens, or planted anywhere structure and texture are desired in a garden.

Grasshopper Libertia

The Grasshopper Libertia is a dwarf variety of the NZ Iris, and is an herbaceous perennial grown for its showy flowers and small stature. Lovely, white flowers are held emerge above the foliage through spring and result in orange-red berries in autumn. It grows as a tidy clump of green, sword like leaves, to about 10-15 cm tall and the same wide though it will colonise a larger area in time with its spreading roots. Best performance with this plant is achieved when it is positioned in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of coastal conditions, cool climates, moderate frost, and a range of soil conditions, barring extreme wet and dry. The Grasshopper Libertia is commonly mass planted, added to a mixed planting, planted around the base of a larger tree, included in cottage or “white” gardens, or planted anywhere structure and texture are desired in a garden.
