“Bolero” is a unique variety of apple that grow as an upright, narrow column and bears fruit off that column. The result is a tree that grows to just 60 cm wide and can be topped at any height up to 3.5 m. The fruit are glossy green with a golden blush and has flesh that is nicely textured, crisp and juicy. Their great flavour make them exceptional for eating fresh. It is self-pollinating and so does not require another apple variety planted close by to produce fruit and seldom requires any pruning. Best results with this deciduous tree are achieved when it is grown in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site. It will tolerate frost and cool climates. “Bolero” is commonly included in a mixed planting, maintained in a container, or planted in a series alongside a wall. It also suits being grown on a balcony or in a courtyard garden. This is a compact tree with great aesthetics and the added advantage of fruit.
