“Montys Surprise” is a variety of apple that bears medium sized fruit in autumn that are light green and red. The fruit are juicy and very tasty. The MM102 rootstock keeps this deciduous tree to about 5 m tall and 4 m wide, though it can be trimmed as necessary. It is self-pollinating and so does not require another apple variety planted close by to produce fruit. Best results with this variety are achieved when it is grown in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of frost, though a late frost in spring can reduce yields. It is not suited to sub-tropical climates. “Montys Surprise” on this rootstock is commonly planted for fruit production, included in a mixed planting, or grown as a specimen.
