Feijoa Kakapo produces medium sized, oval fruit with a smooth skin in mid-autumn. The flesh is sweet and juicy with a lovely flavour. This evergreen shrub grows to 3 m tall and 2 m wide but can be trimmed as necessary. Feijoa Kakapo is commonly grown for fruit production, trimmed into a hedge, used for screening, or added into a mixed planting.

Feijoa Kakapo Details

Feijoa Kakapo produces medium sized, oval fruit with a smooth skin in mid-autumn. The flesh is sweet and juicy with a lovely flavour. For this variety to fruit well, another variety of Feijoa such as Unique needs to be planted nearby to aid pollination for better fruit production. The fruit result from bright red flowers in summer which are set amidst the dark green leaves. This evergreen shrub typically grows to 3 m tall and 2 m wide but can be trimmed as necessary. It performs best when planted in full sun on a well-drained, fertile site. Sites prone to heavy frost should be avoided, particularly during establishment. It is tolerant of coastal environments and moderate wind. Feijoa Kakapo is commonly grown for fruit production, trimmed into a hedge, used for screening, or added into a mixed planting. The Plant Company recommends planting at least two varieties to extend your season and ensure a better harvest.
