“Candy” is a variety of Fig that produces fruit with a green-yellow skin and red flesh in autumn. This variety produces good yields of medium sized fruit that are sweet and flavoursome mid-season. It grows as a large, spreading tree and will bear fruit after 3-5 years. It does not require another Fig to be planted alongside to produce fruit. This deciduous plant carries large, deeply lobed green leaves and has a very tidy, rounded growth habit. It typically reaches 4 m tall and 3 m wide, though can be trimmed as necessary. Best results with this variety are achieved when it is planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of cool climates, frost, and short periods of dry. “Candy” is commonly grown for fruit production or as a specimen. It looks great in a mixed planting and is a good choice for attracting birds into the garden.
