“Ventura” is a variety of Fig that produces fruit with a green skin and red flesh in autumn. The sweet fruit are large sized and produced mid-season. It grows as a large, spreading tree and will bear fruit after 3-5 years. It does not require another variety of Fig to be planted alongside to produce fruit. This deciduous tree carries large and deeply lobed, green leaves which develop yellow tones in autumn before falling. It has a very tidy, rounded growth habit, typically reaching 4 m tall and 3 m wide and can be trimmed as necessary. Best results with this variety are achieved when it is planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of cool climates, frost, and short periods of dry. “Ventura” is commonly grown for fruit production or as a specimen. It looks great in a mixed planting and is a good choice for attracting birds into the garden.
