Mandarin Satsuma Details

Satsuma is a very popular Mandarin variety because of its easy to peel fruit which are exceptional to eat. The fruit ripen in winter and are virtually seedless, sweet, and juicy. For the best flavour leave on the tree for about a week after the skin has turned completely orange. The lush foliage is glossy and dark green and becomes adorned with white flowers in summer. This selection is fast growing and typically reaches 2 m tall and the same wide, and can be trimmed as necessary. Best performance with this variety is achieved when it is grown in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site, and protected from heavy frost. Citrus will generally tolerate moderate frost once established. Satsuma is commonly included in a mixed planting, maintained in a container, used in a courtyard garden, or grown as a specimen.
