“Ruby Queen” is a variety of plum that produces high yields of dark red fruit. The flesh is red, sweet, and tasty. Blossoms adorn the tree in spring and give rise to the fruit in summer. It does require another variety planted nearby such as “Santa Rosa” or “Black Doris” to improve yields. This deciduous tree grows with an upright habit to about 5 m tall and 4 m wide, performing best when planted in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of cool climates and frost, though a late frost can reduce yields. “Ruby Queen” is commonly planted for fruit production and makes for a lovely specimen. It can be contained with trimming once the fruit is finished.
