Annona cherimola

Custard Apple, Cherimoya

Commonly known as Cherimoya or Custard Apple, this is an evergreen tree grown for its fruit and foliage. Large, dark green leaves are held off sturdy stems, and afford a lush appearance. In cooler climates, the leaves may take on yellow tones and fall during winter, but otherwise it will remain evergreen. Amidst the foliage are borne large fruit that have an edible pulp. It grows as a rounded tree to about 3 m tall and the same wide, and can be contained with trimming. Best results are achieved when it is grown in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained, frost-free site that does not dry out. It is tolerant of short periods of cool once established. Cherimoya are usually included in subtropical gardens as either a specimen or added to a mixed planting.
