The Cortland apple tree bears good sized fruit that ripen in autumn. The fruit are red with white flesh that is crisp, sweet, juicy, and are great for eating fresh. This deciduous tree typically grows to 3.5 m tall and the same wide. It is self-pollinating and so does not require another apple variety planted close by to set fruit. Best results are achieved with this tree when grown in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site. The Cortland apple tree is commonly planted for fruit production, added to a mixed planting, or maintained in a courtyard garden.
