Feijoa Pounamu Details

Feijoa Pounamu is an early season variety that produces medium sized fruit with a thin, smooth skin. The flesh is sweet and juicy and has a tangy flavour. The fruit result from bright red flowers in summer which are set amidst the dark green leaves. This evergreen shrub typically grows to 3 m tall and 2 m wide but can be trimmed as necessary. It performs best when planted in full sun on a well-drained, fertile site, and is tolerant of coastal environments, short periods of dry, some wind, and moderate frost once established. Feijoa Pounamu is commonly grown for fruit production, trimmed into a hedge, used for screening, included in cottage gardens, or added into a mixed planting. The Plant Company recommends planting at least two varieties to provide for a longer period of fruiting and to ensure better pollination.
