Pear Beurre Hardy (Pyrus communis) is a variety grown for its flavoursome, brown skinned fruit which ripen in late summer. The large fruit are held amidst the fresh, green foliage which develops yellow tones in autumn before falling. It typically grows to 4 m tall and 3.5 m wide but can be trimmed as necessary. Pyrus Beurre Hardy is commonly grown for fruit production, included into a mixed planting, or grown as a specimen.

Pear Beurre Hardy Details

Pear Beurre Hardy (Pyrus communis) is a variety grown for its flavoursome, brown skinned fruit which ripen in late summer. The large fruit are held amidst the fresh, green foliage which develops yellow tones in autumn before falling. This variety requires another variety planted nearby such as Williams Bon Chretien or Doyenne du Comice to aid pollination and achieve good yields. It typically grows to 4 m tall and 3.5 m wide but can be trimmed as necessary. Best yields are achieved when it is planted in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site, with good soil moisture during dry periods. It is tolerant of cool climates and frost, though a late frost in spring may reduce the yield. Pyrus Beurre Hardy is commonly grown for fruit production, included into a mixed planting, or grown as a specimen.
