Pear Stark Crimson Details

The Stark Crimson pear is grown for its interesting and tasty fruit which ripen in late summer. The fruit have a red skin, a finely textured flesh, and a mild flavour. These are held amidst the fresh, green foliage which develops yellow tones in autumn before falling. This variety requires another variety planted nearby such as Winter Nelis to aid pollination and produce good yields. It typically grows to 4 m tall and 3.5 m wide but can be trimmed as necessary. Best yields are achieved when it is planted in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site, with good soil moisture during dry periods. It is tolerant of cool climates and frost, though a late frost in spring may reduce the yield. The Stark Crimson pear is commonly grown for fruit production, included into a mixed planting, or grown as a specimen.
