Williams Bon Chretien and Conference are both popular varieties of pear that bear tasty fruit in autumn. The rootstock keeps this deciduous tree to about 4 m tall and 3.5 m wide, though it can be trimmed as necessary. Best results will be achieved when the tree it is grown in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of frost, though a late frost in spring can reduce yields. It is not well suited to sub-tropical climates as yields can be lower due to lack of winter chilling. This double grafted tree is commonly planted for fruit production, included in a mixed planting, or maintained in a courtyard garden.
