Plum Pernel Details

Plum Pernel produces jam quality fruit. White blossoms adorn the tree in spring and give rise to the fruit in early summer. This variety does not need another tree planted nearby to aid pollination. This deciduous tree grows with an upright habit to about 5 m tall and 3 m wide, performing best when planted in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of cool climates and frost, though a late frost can reduce yields. Plum Pernel is commonly planted to aid the pollination of other plum varieties but also makes for a lovely specimen.
