Quince Pineapple

“Pineapple” is a variety of Quince that produces large, pale green fruit which turns light yellow as they ripen in autumn. The fruit have flesh that is white, aromatic, with a slight pineapple taste. They result from pink flowers in spring. This variety is self-fertile which means another variety planted nearby is not needed to produce fruit. It grows to about 3.5 m tall and 2 m wide with an upright growth habit, and can be trimmed as necessary. The branches have an interesting twisted appearance and host thick, dark green leaves that develop yellow and orange tones in autumn before falling. It grows best when planted in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site, and is tolerant of dry periods, frost, and cool climates. “Pineapple” is commonly grown as a specimen, included in a mixed planting, planted specifically for fruit, or included in cottage gardens.
